HI! MY NAME IS WENDY.
I am a counselor. Before having an office of my own, I worked as a school counselor in an elementary school and a middle school. A counselor is someone who helps people with their feelings, learning coping skills or manage a challenge or change.
Soon, you'll be visiting my office with your parents or maybe someone very special to you like your Grandmother, Nee-na, MiMi or G-Daddy, Pa, Poppie or Pop-Pop!
The outside of my office building looks like this.
When you walk inside, you will enter my waiting area where you can read a magazine, play a game, or enjoy a snack.
Shortly, I will invite you to my office. Sometimes, parents and I will meet first, or we may all meet together. Children, teenagers, and even adults come to see me to talk about their feelings and challenges, as well as the good things in their lives.
This is the waiting room and each week you can watch what's growing in the hydroponic garden. Once, we had baby tomatoes that the kids were able to snack on! This is where we talk & celebrate your successes and challenges you may have experienced during the week. Yes, we celebrate challenges too as they are opportunities to GROW!
This is the first office we will meet in to talk about how things are going. I am a safe person to talk to and will only share what you say if someone or something is unsafe. We will talk about successes and challenges, play games & learn skills that help us feel better.
This is the second room that will be a part of your session. In this room, you get to choose how you would like to express your thoughts, feelings or situation using expressive arts and toys. All kids usually really love this part! Lots of kids like to share with their families about what they played, painted or created during this time. At the end, you will get to share with me what you liked/learned and what you didn't like about your session. Yes, your thoughts and feelings matter!
When it is time for you to go, you can choose a pamphlet from the brochure board that may be of interest you.
When it is time for you to go, you are able to choose a treasure from the chest! Yes! Even the BIG kids like these too! Moms, Dads & your Special Adults are even asking for a treasure box, lol!
